2012: Year in Review

So with 2012 coming to an end; I write this post as a review of the year that was. All the dooms and glooms and the successes that I remember from this year that stick out in my memory. No doubt Year 12 has been my favorite year of high school; in fact it has been the best year for me in my short life. So before a new chapter of our life begins; it’s time to review 2012.

1.     Captains + Ophelia meeting: in fact I can’t remember if this was this year or REALLY late last year. But it had an impact on this year so it shall count. This was small however it helped forge a strong between the captains of 2012 and established 2 of my strongest friendships in 2012.

2.     Swimming Carnival: To be honest I don’t remember doing much except making a support poster; and the bus ride back was awesome.

3.     Half Yearlies! Oh dear this was a massive kick up the bum. I realized that if I didn’t start trying I wouldn’t even make UWS. Especially in English. This also lead to me getting Meena as my English tutor which I don’t regret at all since not only did she save my ass but we’re now close friends even after le HSC.

4.     Selective Schools Meeting: When we met with the captains of Ruse and Baulko to plan the tri school tournament again with O. It was hard to work with them admittedly but things all went sweetly.

5.     Chartered Accountants Night: Missed Origin 1 for this event but it was so worth it. Helped with my career decisions and it was fun. Also started another one of my strong friendships in Year 12!

6.     Prefects Afternoon Tea; It was fun and yeah cool working with all the prefects.

7.     Start of GirraMemes: Not only has it made us more popular but GirraMemes admin chats with Nguyen Josh and Priya have been amazing fun. And good blackmail material aha. I’m the one that made that page!!!! YEAH!

8.     Girra Touch Team: Spending lunches playing footy with these guys training for Metwest and Tri School was epic. The amount of effort they put in was amazing!

9.     Start of my blog! Friend got me into blogging and must thank her for it! It’s been fun and tbh I’m surprised I still do it.

10. MAD! Had to host it with Kaavya and it was mad fun! With all those nerd jokes I’ve got from Ophelia this year I was loaded with them.

11. Week in Adelaide. Awesome week with the boys and Albanese. Surprised a lot of people with how well we did since we were all noobs but the week staying in the hotel with the boys was the best. Especially sharing a bed with Albert and Ajay and DNMing all night. And the shirtless pillow fight with the whole team on the last night at 3am aha.

12. Athletics Carnival: Didn’t do much but it was my last carnival ever. Sad but what can you do.

13. COLA Boys BBQ! SO much fun! The COLA boys got me through this year. Honestly Year 12 was the BEST thanks to them.

14. Tri School Tournament! After being absolutely hammered last year by both Ruse and Baulko; it was good to beat Ruse and although Baulko still beat us; we didn’t get trashed like last year. It was a close game.

15. Metwest. MY last touch tournament in high school ever. Proud of the boys and it was so much fun.

16. Throughout the year; sitting with O on the senior benches absorbing the lovely sunny weather.

17. Throughout the year; PLAYING FOOTY. If you ask me the best thing about High School; it would be playing footy with the boys by a MILE!! I love it! Hopefully lots of footy to play in uni!

18. Moving tables in Modern: Although this sounds stupid it made me closer friends with WANGYYYYYY (sup bro) and LEGENNNNDDD! Which spread my friends list to cool guys from outside school.

19. Muck Up Day: I never really got psyched for this but it was cool. Lots of colour. Teletubbies definitely the best!

20. Cadetship interviews: Had quite a few and so happy to get one with PWC! Probably the biggest career changing moment of 2012. So happy!

21. Pre-Trial holidays: Probably never worked harder than this period. IT was worth it; trials were awesome for me.

22. University Open Days: Pretty fun although I didn’t get much out of it. Still USYD vs UNSW for me. At this stage it looks like UNSW for me.

23. Roberta’s Party: The FOOD still sticks out; it was amazing. And walking in a deserted suburb to the venue. And missing our train station and having to head back. And listening to a bunch of whinging in between :P

24. SCHOOL SPIRIT WEEK: Best week ever! Although it started pretty weak (get it; week and weak LOL nyeh) Winter Vibes and MC Day was the BEST!

25. Multicultural Day; needs a separate mention. Spent a lot of the time with O but then the TQ was the best! Hosting it with Kanav was BRILLIANT FUN!!! Hosting events with Kanav is the best. AND THE TQ! Wow the COLA boys did a dance which we choreographed 5 mins before the TQ! Although we didn’t win it was amazing and brought us boys EVEN closer.

26. My 18^th birthday! GOT LIKE 6 CAKES AHAH! IT was MADD!! Some amazing cakes including tiramisus and #YOLOswag cakes and Eels cakes.

27. Hindmarshes last NRL game! Sad to see the legend retire L

28. Last few weeks of school: Yeah it was the BOMB!!! It was fun especially when avoiding drama and English classes with shivz ahaa.

29. Talent Quest! Easily my favorite moment of 2012. The days of practice in room 39 with 40 boys in the room and planning on Facebook was amazing. All the choreography videos we had to watch at home and the Tron lights and everything. Then when we did it! AMAZING! A deserved 40/40 perfect score and victory. BRB gonna go watch the video.

30. Graduation: It was funny watching people cry. It still hasn’t sunk in yet but I’ve been seeing my close friends just as much now so it’s all good.

31. HSC. Yeah this needs no explanation.

32. Rejoining cricket. This also lead to me training like a dog with my mate Asif.

33. My 18^th Birthday Party: Sais bro was DJ and it was mad! Got so many amazing presents thanks guys!

34. Year 12 Formal: IT was mad!!!! The suits the dresses and the people! Amazing! I was lucky to have an awesome formal date; lols.

35. Start of WOMS.education: It’s going well so far and gave me productive stuff to do during the holidays.

36. Karaoke: essentially the end of my yellow fever cycle aha. It was pretty fun though!

37. Ajays 18^th Party and Ophelias 18^th Party! Le polaroid camera; now I cant give crap presents to anyone anymore.

38. Singapore holiday! SO COOL! Sentosa was the best!

39. India trip! Not done yet. But the wedding was good! Shopping is godly! And the cousins are all here! They say HELLO! And they’re damn cheeky. They do nothing but try take my Phone and my DS all the time. And play charades! They never get bored of it!

That’s all I can really think of for now. HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE! But before I end this post; I would like to thank and publically embarrass a few friends that have made this year so much better and easier; even if they don’t know it. Sorry if you’re not on the list but this is le special few!!

Wedding

Indian weddings. Without a doubt the best weddings in the world. The colour lights food everything; wow. No other cultural wedding even comes close. One of the things that make me a proud Indian.  :)

I've been privileged to attend a few weddings. Nothing even compares to the traditional Indian ones. This time last year I was attending the most expensive wedding ever probably. Crazy stuff. I love it!

Indian weddings; literally a month of fun. Not a day or a week; a month of events. No wonder Indians don't divorce; the marriage process and prices are epic that no one would want to organize one again.

okay so this is going to sound like the most immature and stupid rant ever. and that it definitely is.

anyway; so now I'm in Singapore. initially, the holiday was not very smooth. why? cause when we got here, we came to the hotel and realised we had some other guys luggage. so we had to go back all the way to the airport and trade with them. yes normally that's LOL but not when it happens to you, especially after a long flight :(

(btw all I did on the flight was play Pokemon Black 2)

now. the most striking thing about Singapore is not the beautiful scenery, the rich cars or the shops, but the young couples all over the place.

RANT:

K SO EVERY CUTE/HOT/ANGELIC ASIAN GIRL IS IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH A SUPER NOOB ANTISOCIAL HAG LOOKING GUY. (not to be rude)

LEGIT AFTER 1 HOUR ALL I COULD SEE WAS UNEVEN COUPLES. HECK I STARTED INSPECTING COUPLES ALL DAY AND NOT ONE WAS EVEN. WHEN I FIRST SAW A GOOD GIRL WITH AN EQUALLY GOOD OR HIGHER GUY, IT WAS 6:50PM (yes thats how serious I am about this) but then at 6:57 pm I saw the next uneven couple.

Now, legit I've been getting rejected my whole life so this is just like WTH IS GOING ON HERE. THIS IS SO DEPRESSING?! THIS IS LIKE A RAT DATING A PEACOCK (i tried to avoid human analogy not to be slack lol even though this rant is already quite dog but yolo) But seriously my self esteem has taken such a hit lol this is legit depressing. [hey at least I get free WIFI to rant with]

anyway enough of being slack.

SO! SENTOSA ISLANDS! legit nothing short of a paradise. it is SOOOO beautiful. its like everything in one island. rainforests, beaches, caves freaking everything!!

and the "Images of Singapore" exhibit was the best display i've ever seen. learnt a lot about singapore and even indian and chinese traditions and marriage etc. lol my mum asked me why I was so interesting in the chinese marriage ceremony displays; I think she's onto my yellow fever

but other than this, Singapore isn't that much different to Sydney.
It's a massive tourist spot so lots of whites.

legit only difference is no bogans and arabs aha no racism (it's just a difference not saying its a bad thing)

and even Asian girls look EXACTLY the same here. same style with the mini short shorts and those cardigan things. legit their fashion is so dodgy lol

man if I had money i'd totally be into fashion (no homo) so I could spend money on legit nice sexy clothes. but best and less it is for me brahz.

THE CARS. every second car here is a merc or a porsche.

id say 30% of cars are Hyundais/Toyota (inc taxis)

I haven't seen any bad or old cars, my car probably wouldn't even be allowed in this country LOL

although I love singapore I miss sydney already, especially my friends (again, no homo)

Haven't blogged in a few days! Been so busy!

Friday went to the restaurant of a mate. Legit best Thai food out. And the fried ice cream was heaven. So if you're ever in narrabeen, Lakeside Thai on pittwater road is where it's at. Will definitely go again sometime soon.

Now I'm craving Thai food again. Ahhhh it's so good.
Looking forward to uni cause you can try a lot of city food. And Asian food is my favourite, and there's heaps in the city .

Saturday cricket! And Ajay party! Bastard told me it was formal so I looked like a fool. Sunday the Kevin party!!! Always good

Spent time with my old pal Beatrice today! it's funny how you can not talk to someone for years, but when you see each other again, it's like you saw them yesterday. (or maybe that's just me)

Argo! It's a really good movie. I had never seen any trailers or anything but B said it sounded good so we ended up watching it and it was REALLY good. And it's apparently based on a true story. I recommend people go check it out, it's a didactic experience.

Also; the pizza place in castle towers makes really good gourmet pizzas. Try the "New Orleans"

Speaking of Castle Towers, today was my first visit there. It was bigger than I expected but it was rich looking just as I imagined ahah.

Spent about $100 today not good gotta save for overseas trip.

You know you can get steak at the best restaurant in Kolkata (major city of India) for like 160-200 rupees? That's not even $4. And for 5 star restaurant? I'm so in for that. Can't wait!!!

Uncharted 3 is so cool. I bought it today even though I've already finished it once.

formal was pretty normal. wasn't terrible, wasn't good/great. i just quite enjoyed sitting around doing nothing. I can't really be bothered explaining but basically, the night started shit because I left the roses for all the girls on our table at alberts house, which sucked bad. Ahhh assassins creed 3. I think I've learnt more about American history in the last two days then in school or anything. It's all based on real events you know!

So I got the "Highly Commended Student Allround Excellence" from the NSW government today. Didn't win first but hey! Still pretty happy.

I've come along way from year 7. I used to do nothing but sport in year 7 but in year 12 I did a lot and took most of a lot of opportunities.

I think ive accomplished a lot in high school, whether I get my goal ATaR or not. Feeling proud right now aha

So history extension is probably the only subject troll enough that you can use Assassins Creed in an essay
and judging by boredofstudies I wasnt the only one either

I focused heaps on uncommon case studies for the first question. Went of the basic Herodotus/Livy/Tacitus structure before delving into the post-modern nature of the public opinion and based most of my response on the history wars, the internet and Assassins creed (Yes, seriously, apparently markers love shit like that).

Ended up with 9 pages, and i analyses the extent, causation and future prospects of the division. Not sure how i'll go, hopefully 45+, but my ranking will make sure i'll get a top band.

this is so different to trials. before trials I was studying hard with minimal distractions and effectively. now it's like do one question, question my existence, drop my head/stare out the window for 2 mins and start again. it's pretty scary/disappointing to be honest. also I tend to get moody during this time, and ready to punch something. Anyway so Thursday was our graduation. I'm pretty close to a lot of people in my grade so I thought I'd get pretty emotional but yeah I didn't even go close. So instead I went around making fun of people that were bawling their eyes out hehe

was good not great, the footy could have been better

and then picnic day yesterday

it was also pretty awesome

the water fight was kinda lame but when the sun finally came out for the footy, that was good. even girls played! haha good to see everyone having fun

and on the bus ride back to school, that was fun too

and now to grind out the last 3 weeks till the HSC. sounds like so long to study but ehhhh...as my closest friend of year 12 would say, "gai yau" or "add oil"

today was my last day as the male vice captain of girraween high school.

a big reflection on what I've done; forgive me if this sounds like I'm bragging

so I remember sitting on the official party for the induction ceremony last year. at that time I was thinking YEAH VICE CAPTAIN ALL THE GIRLS ARE GONNA WANT MEE!!! (lol jk jk)

and then reality sunk in, being a captain of a school isn't about doing front office hectic stuff, it's staying back when no one else wants to and putting away chairs and tables and working with people you'd rather avoid.

my first thing was party in pink and I'd like to think I had a large role in making it a success. it trained me up for future work talking to managers etc

then the year progressed and stuff like Tri School, School Spirit Week went ahead where everyone had fun. It's not always fun to organise but fun to see it go smoothly.

I enjoyed my time greatly working with Kanav especially and I'll remember the moments forever.

Also, last modern lesson ever. We all got personalised cards from our teacher and for once he was nice all the way through. He even all made us wear Heavy Metal band tshirts and played metal the whole lesson on the speakers. it was cool - modern although not always interesting was my best subject and we had a great teacher with the weirdest but definitely most effective teaching style, hence why our class dominated lol. na but the other class carved up towards the end of the year.

also; today at lunch all the boys got together ALL 40 for a full practice of our COLA boys dance. SO COOL. It was so fun practising together, and we're gonna do it again tomorrow.

OH AND "PROJECT MAYHEM" someone boofhead keeps graffiting and vandalising the school on weekends by painting messages on the wall (not chamber of secrets ahah) and trying to frame me by engraving my trademark #YOLOswag into the wet concrete. however they screwed up, since they wrote YoloSwag or somthing, forgetting the hash tag and the capitalisation of YOLO.
